IoD certifies Glo EVC, 65 others
The Executive Vice Chairman of Globacom, Mrs Bella Disu, and 65 other directors have been certified by the Institute of Directors (IoD) Nigeria.
Mrs Disu was among those who bagged the Institute’s full membership at the February 2019 induction ceremony for new members, which took place in Lagos. Some others got associate membership, while three directors got life membership at the induction ceremony where the charge was administered by the Institute’s 1st Vice President, Chief Chris Okunowo.
Mrs Disu who joined Globacom as Group Executive Director in 2003 is also a Director of Julius Berger Plc., the biggest construction company in Nigeria.
Welcoming guests to the event, the President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Institute, Ahmed Rufai Mohammed, charged the inductees to continue to learn in order to remain relevant and competent, adding that the Institute had set up a centre to advance corporate governance in the country.
Delivering a keynote lecture on the theme: “Eight technologies every director needs to be aware of”, the Chief Economist for PricewaterhouseCoopers, Dr. Andrew Nevin, declared that the number of private sector companies should be increased in the country to banish poverty, adding that the largest foreign exchange earner for Nigeria are its people working in the Diaspora.
He listed the eight technologies needed to include Cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence, 3D Printing, Drones, Virtual Reality, Internet of Things, Robotics and Blockchain, urging the inductees to get familiar with them to enhance their capacity and competence.
Responding on behalf of the inductees, Akin Fanimokun of First Bank, said the new members would uphold the ethics of the profession at all times by being good ambassadors of the Institute.The Institute of Directors was established 35 years ago to professionally develop directors by imbuing them with leadership skills to enable them lead their organisations well and develop the country.
