ICSAN charges govt on corporate governance
Despite the challenges faced in the country, the Lagos arm of the Institute of Charted Secretaries and Administration of Nigeria (ICSAN) has charged the Federal Government on the need to extol corporate governance.
Speaking at the eighth investiture ceremony of its chairman in Lagos, the newly elected Chairperson, Mrs. Abiola Laseinde said, it is pertinent to state that our nation is going through a lot of challenges in every sector of our national economy, adding that this is due to the absence of integrity, good governance and accountability in both the private and public sectors of our economy.
Laseinde said corruption, nepotism, maladministration and gross dishonesty have pervaded our governance.
Explaining further, Laseinde said: “Our chapter, being the flagship of the national body operating in Lagos, will aim to spread the gospel and concept of corporate governance to every sector of our economy and particularly in every institution where our members are functioning.
“We will encourage other administrators in our areas of influence to imbibe this culture of corporate governance even in our public sector, she said.
She explained the components of effective corporate governance to include; fairness, transparency, accountability and responsibility.
She said: “Our mantra, it is possible to win by righteousness. The majority doing the wrong things and declaring bogus accounts will become the minority some day and the minority doing the right things will soon become the majority. It is only a question of time, she stressed.
