Hotel union seeks job security for members

The Hotel and Personal Services Senior Staff Association (HAPSSSA), has sought the intervention of the Federal Government and employers to ensure jobs in the sector are secured.
 
The union said job security in the sector is pertinent to cushion the effect of COVID-19 pandemic on workers.
President of HAPSSSA, William Adegbe, said the sector witnessed the shutting down of some hotels, while some have embarked on redundancy cum retrenchment.

Noting that the situation is that bad, he said salaries have been reduced to the barest minimum to ensure the survival of its members.
Adegbe, who spoke recently in Abuja, urged the government to take a cue from those offering palliatives in form of salaries to workers through their Tax Identification Numbers (TIN).

He said the government’s idea of spending unseen billions, as palliatives should be jettisoned.

He said: “As a Trade Union, we need not be told the hard lesson the pandemic is teaching all of us; we need to be proactive to our social responsibilities to the larger society.

“Our voice should be loud and clear in the disgraceful manners that we are handling corruption cases, the jesters at the National Assembly should be cautioned and take the businesses of national development seriously. I believe the leadership of the labour centres will rise to save the situation as Nigerian workers are ready,” he said.
