Group partners government to tackle unemployment through agric initiatives
The creation of massive employment through agriculture initiatives is the focus of a partnership between the Federal Government and Vocation Realise on Agricultural Empowerment Foundation (VRAEF).
Speaking in Abuja on the initiative, the Project Director of VRAEF, Ms Joyce Iroka, said apart from creating jobs for the unemployed persons, the other objectives of the partnership is to eradicate poverty and ensure food security across the federation.
She said the Minister of Agriculture and Rural development, Audu Ogbeh and his Ministry of Information counterpart, Lai Mohammed, have both endorsed the Project, which is set to employ thousands of young Nigerians.
Iroka stated that the project is in line with the Federal Government’s quest to diversify the economy.She further explained that VRAEF will offer agricultural training and proper dissemination of research outcomes to farmers. The Ogun State government has already allocated land at Abeokuta North Local Council Area of the state for the foundation Project to take-off in the state.
She highlighted that the project will essentially focus on mix-farming, post-harvest activities including the provision of storage structures and provision of laboratories services.
According to the Project Director, the foundation was designed by a catholic Jesuit Priest an American, Rev Fr Francis Cusimano SJ and the Vatican, borne out of the importance and the number of lives the foundation will affect positively and that plans to endorse it is equally underway.
