The German has trained 70 entrepreneurs in piggery, farming, fishing, construction, poultry, ICT solution and palm oil processing for six months.

The Team Leader of the training programme, Mr. Christoph Pennhausen said the German government had committed three million pounds into the programme which was supervised by the Deutsche Gesellschraft fur international Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), a German Agency.

The Team Leader disclosed that the only financial contribution the participants made was paying for their accommodation and transport fares to the training venue.

The Special Assistant to the Ogun state government on Trade and Investment, Mrs Hafsat Abiola-Costello, who spoke at the graduation ceremony, said one of the major ways to ensure rapid growth of the country’s economy is for the states and Federal Government to place high priority to the promotion of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs).

She argued that all nations that have strong economy were built on SME’s and urged the country to take a cue from it.

She said: “Abiola-Costello stressed that countries’ economics grow on SMEs and not on government contracts. SMES are the last hope for Nigeria.”

According to her, it was regrettable that 60 percent of Nigerian unemployed youths are looking for government jobs instead of finding ways of doing something themselves that would yield them income.

She commended the organisers and expressed hope that the beneficiaries would make the best use of the opportunity to improve their financial status.

Abiola-Costello lamented that it was sad commentary to note that it had taken the country 60 years to build its economy, disclosing that there are still about 500,000 unemployed youths in Ogun.
