Poised to reduce the prevalence of malaria in the country, Elbe Pharma Nigeria Limited has unveiled an innovative product, Amatem Forte Softgel, as a superior and effective alternative to treat malaria without any known form of resistance.

Amatem Forte Softgel is an inventive brand of Artemether-Lumefantrine in soft gelatin formulation that bridges the gap of pharmacokinetic in-compatibilities that provides many superior desirable benefits such as superior bioavailability, rapid response, improved efficacy, enhanced compliance and easy to swallow, among others.
The launch of the product, according to medical experts, is major landmark achievement, especially against the backdrop that Nigeria is seriously burdened with highest prevalence of malaria in Africa.

The experts added that the product has a clinical edge over its equivalent and better tolerated. At the unveiling of the product at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), a renowned team of Prof. O.O Adedeji, FMC Path. D. Phil (Oxon), Dr O.K. Yemtan, Dr.W.B Mutiu of LASUTH, who concluded the local clinical trial, which is the pinnacle of technical validation, affirmed the clinical and therapeutic advantage over tablet form equivalent.

According to them, “What we found out from the bioavailability study is that Amatem Softgel is more present in the bloodstream than the tablets. The implication is that Amatem Softgel can quickly attack malaria parasite in the bloodstream, than tablets.”According to WHO, protecting the efficacy of Artemisinin Based Combination Therapy (ACT), is a top global, public health priority.

Among the attributed possible causes of treatment failure with Artemether Lumefantrine, (ACTs) in tablet form are poor patient compliance, dosage precision/pharmacokinetic discord challenges, low bioavailability and substandard products.Widely accepted across Nigeria by stakeholders, Amatem Forte Softgel, according to the producer, promised to take the battle against malaria to another to benefit patients and save lives.
