FG advised on development of oil producing states
The Federal Government has been advised to improve the condition in the oil producing states, where the bulk of the nation’s revenue is generated.
Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu 1, who gave the charge recently, when the President of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), Francis Olabode Johnson, paid a courtesy visit, said government should add value to the environment and the people in the area.
The royal father, who blamed the accumulation of wealth by some Nigerians on greed, said government should focus on welfare programmes that will improve the lives of Nigerian workers.
He said, “the wage that workers are receiving is too small and the agitation for minimum wage may not have any effect. No matter how much the workers receive, will be eroded by inflation, as traders will also increase the prices of their goods.”
He also urged government to focus on developmental programmes such as hospitals, transportation, road infrastructure, power and other welfare programmes, while also warning leaders in positions of authority to beware of sycophants.
Earlier, the President of PENGASSAN, Johnson commended the monarch for sending a powerful representation with the staff of office to the Association’s 40th Anniversary celebration recently in Abuja, saying that “this is an indication that you have the interest of the people at heart.”
