Experts urge women to explore digital space for new jobs

Experts have urged women to take advantage of opportunities that abound in the digital space.

Founder of Alan & Grant, Gbenga Totoyi, at a women conference in Lagos, charged women professionals and entrepreneurs to look out for jobs locally and in other African countries to enable them garner resources and experiences to empower others women positively for nation building.

Totoyi said: “We are in a digital age. Women should take up technical and digital jobs instead of leaving them for their male counterparts. They should be willing take more risks and be adventurous,” he said.

He observed that women are today faced with a lot of challenges ranging from unemployment, to health-related issues, so they should take advantage of valuable opportunities.

He opined that while most people say the digital technology is the future, Totoyi insisted that digital technology is here and in everyone’s hands – phones, tablets, and other gadgets.

Asset Operation Manager, Shell Nigeria, Elohor Aiboni, noted that Nigerian women have been given a platform to recognise their innate potential, and develop capabilities to achieve success through collaboration, empowerment and mentorship.

Aiboni urged women not to be deterred by several challenges in the way of success and purpose-driven life.

She maintained that they should also take advantages of any platform that enhances self-training to boost productivity and nation building.

Another speaker, Dr. Abimbola Abolarinwa, recounted her experiences as the Nigerian first female Urologist coupled with her challenges and success story in building her brand through multitasking and huge support from family and competent staff.

A comedian, Dr. Helen Paul, emphasised that women should be more disciplined, focused and never misplace priorities.

Paul advised women to acquire skills with good contents in all their areas of interest while urging them to be more confident, never be pushover, determined, prayerful and accommodating.
