The Nigeria Employers' Consultative Association (NECA) has implored the newly constituted Economic Advisory Council (EAC) to embrace consultative fellowship with the Organised Private Sector (OPS) to achieve the desired goal for economic development.

The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) has implored the newly constituted Economic Advisory Council (EAC) to embrace consultative fellowship with the Organised Private Sector (OPS) to achieve the desired goal for economic development.

NECA recalled how councils in previous administrations regularly consulted the OPS in Nigeria for sectoral related issues, which often resulted in achieving the desired goal for development.

Director-General of NECA, Timothy Olawale, who commended President Buhari in overhauling the management of the economy, by constituting the EAC, called on the government and Nigerians to give the council the needed support and encouragement to effectively deliver on the assignment.

Olawale noted that as a nation, the citizens had never been short of ideas or policies, stressing “the crux is necessary reforms and implementations of the policies in the country, especially in creating enabling environment for businesses to thrive and contribute their quota to national development through job creation.”

According to him, “in a time like this, the country needs to fight head-on the ills of poverty, unemployment and achieve significant economic growth.”

He described the composition of the council as very robust, with seasoned professionals with expertise in areas such as fiscal policy, monetary, industrial policy, trade and energy economics. The NECA boss added that with the council reporting directly to president Buhari, it would allow them to focus on execution and achievement of targets set by the presidency.
