Delta seeks collaboration with labour for development

The Delta State government has reaffirmed its resolve to partner with various labour unions and associations towards ensuring industrial harmony in the state.

The Head of Service (HoS), Reginald Bayoko stated this when the executive members of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Women Commission, Delta State council paid him a courtesy visit in Asaba.

He said that a robust and cordial relationship between various labour unions and government were crucial and necessary in achieving a common goal that will be of mutual benefit to both parties.

He added: “The state government and the organized labour are partners in progress. We have enjoyed a robust relationship with labour unions in the state over the years, which has enhanced and promoted industrial harmony. This relationship should continue.”

Bayoko maintained that all labour associations in the state would be treated equally, just as he urged civil servants in the state to be alive to their responsibilities so as to ensure effective and efficient service delivery.

He commended them for the visit, emphasizing that he would continue to operate an open door policy aimed at moving the civil service and the state forward.

Earlier, the Chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Women Commission, Faith Usoro, had said that they were in the HOS office to inform him of the existence of the association which was inaugurated in 2016, as well as acquaint him with executive members of the body.

She pleaded the support of the body to the state government, assuring that they would continue to engage in activities that would enhance the welfare of members and promote industrial harmony in the state.

The HoS also played host to the Institute of Health Services Administrators of Nigeria, Delta State Chapter led by the chairman, Tony Prezi, Wives of Permanent Secretaries in the State Civil Service led by the President, Mrs. Grace Okirhienyefa, Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria, Delta State Branch led by the chairman, Philips Agholor.

He assured them that their demands which included creation of procure cadre in the state civil service, creation of procurement departments in all the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), appointment of members of the Institute of Health Services Administrators as Permanent Secretaries, capacity building of their members among others, will be looked into with a view to addressing them.
