CVL conference to focus on poverty, leadership crisis in Africa

The Centre for Values in Leadership (CVL) has said it would proffer solutions to the rising level of poverty and hindrances to growth and development of Africa.

It said it would do this at its 15th annual lecture and conference with the theme: Leadership And Performance In Africa: The Challenge Of The Continent’s Economic Competitiveness, scheduled for February 6, 2018 at the MUSON Centre in Lagos.

The lecture will also focus on the quality of leadership in Africa and its implications for development and growth on the continent, with opportunity to recommend ways of reversing the poor living condition in Africa where majority live in abject poverty.

To boost discussions at the event, African leaders and other key speakers are expected to address several issues that keep the continent at the bottom of global ladder in terms of socio-economic growth and development.

Issues to be discussed include economic growth, corruption, internally displaced persons (IDPs), health, education and water sanitation.

The organisers said in a statement made available to The Guardian that the Special Guest of Honour at the conference will be former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Also expected to to give a perspective from outside the continent is former Prime Minister of Slovenia and member of the European Parliament, Alojz Peterle. 

“Former President of Ghana, Jerry Rawlings has is to chair the symposium, while conversation at the lecture will be set by former Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO] and presidential aspirant in Sierra Leone, Dr. Kandeh K. Yumkella.

He will the keynote address in the event whose chief host and convener is Professor Pat Utomi, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of CVL.
