The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), has charged newly-inducted members on multidimensional leadership for better strategic decisions and to remain relevant.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), has charged newly-inducted members on multidimensional leadership for better strategic decisions and to remain relevant.

President and Chairman of Governing Council, CIPM, Wale Adediran, at the 39th induction ceremony held virtually, said multidimensional leaders stayed objectively alert to make strategic decisions for organisational growth.

He said for one to be an effective Human Resource (HR) leader in today’s world of work, one needs to have strong business acumen, a head for numbers, passion for people, agility, resilience and an enterprise mindset.

He said today’s HR leader must also possess the qualities for a good grasp of change management principles and how to effectively prepare for, and address the potential impacts of change effectively.

He advised the newly members on the need to constantly learn new concepts, new disciplines, and new methods, especially with the business climate that is constantly changing.

“We should not model ourselves with the archetype of a yesterday that is now obsolete. The goal is to never stop learning, to unlearn the things of the past, and to learn new things. That is how to remain relevant in a rapidly changing world.

“You must see yourselves as leaders of self, leaders of others and leaders of the business, and start to chart a new course for yourselves aligned with all these HR truths I have mentioned. Disruption is the name of the game; we all should be used to that by now. We must always be prepared for the next wave of change, and the next. This is the new normal. This is today’s world of work. This is life!” Adediran said.

Chief HR Officer, MTN Nigeria Communications Plc, Esther Akinnukawe, who spoke on, “The New Normal: A Case for Multidimensional Leadership,” listed ways HR professionals can be effective leaders in their organisations and operate in sync with the new normal.

Meanwhile, 163 were inducted through the HR practitioners’ route, while about 509 were inducted through the professional examinations route.
