As part of its plans to increase visibility through public sector participation, the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) says it has witnessed more acceptances by the public sector.

This, the institute said was evidenced by the large number of delegates who attended the 2018 conference, where about 42 per cent participation was drawn from the public sector.

The President and Chairman of Governing Council, CIPM, Udom Inoyo, disclosed this at the institute’s 50th yearly meeting held Tuesday in Lagos.

He said the work the institute did with training of civil servants in Lagos State during the period under review, also led to similar opportunities in Ogun and Ekiti States, even as plans are in place to implement same in other states of the federation.

Inoyo, who gave a report of the institute’s activities and key strategic initiatives implemented in 2018, disclosed that the past 50 years of the institute’s establishment has seen tremendous growth and development.

According to him, 2018 was a year of significant and consolidated progress for the institute at a pace that is most encouraging despite the economic challenges facing many of its members.

He said that attaining the 50-year milestone has been a blend of hard work, wisdom and vision of our founders, immeasurable efforts of our leaders, drive and support of our members and volunteers, who serve meritoriously and with passion and of course the staff of the secretariat, who have adapted to continuous changes introduced to deliver the result we see today.

He added that through this period, the institute has evolved and will keep evolving to meet up with the trends and development of the ever-changing global sphere. 3

The CIPM boss gave an overview on three strategic thrusts which the institute focused on last year, which he said are to strengthen internal and external stakeholders’ engagement; to strengthen existing branches, ensuring membership growth and participation; and to make CIPM more attractive to all HR practitioners.

Similarly, the institute’s Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Ajibola Ponnle, who gave the council’s report, also commended members, who through their resilience and agility help achieved the mandate of the institute.
