THE Petroleum Equalization Fund (PEF) will strengthen its enlightenment programmes for members of Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) in its bid to smoothen the payment of petroleum products bridging.

The Executive Secretary of the Fund, Mrs. Adefunke Kasali, who disclosed this while speaking at a meeting with the executive members of the association in Abuja, stressed the need for sustained dialogue between PEF and NARTO with a view to striking a cordial working alliance.

The Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), which is the central trade union of all trucks and tankers owners used in conveying petroleum products from Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) depots to filling stations across the country had on January 15th, threatened to embark on a national strike if the grievances of its members are not addressed.

A communiqué issued at a reconciliatory meeting called by the Executive Secretary of PEF in Abuja recently said all the issues raised by NARTO had been addressed especially the operations of its ‘Project Aquila’.

‘Project Aquila’ is an electronic business solution introduced by PEF to help monitor loading, transportation and delivery of petroleum products at all depots.

The communiqué noted that payment for marketers claim for transportation of refined petroleum products were being carried out on a constant and continuous basis.

It hinted due diligence had been concluded on all manual claims and those found not to have met the minimum requirements for processing payment are yet to be returned to the concerned marketers while stating that claims that passed the minimum requirement tests have been processed and paid.
