NYCN tasks youths on peaceful elections

THOUSANDS of youths in Edo state recently marched through major streets in Benin City, the state capital with an appeal to teeming youths not to allow themselves to be used by desperate politicians to perpetrate violence during the March 28, 2015 general elections.
 

The youths under the aegis of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) said the march became imperative to create awareness among young people who they said were prone to being used for political violence.  
  

Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Youth and Students Affairs, Jude Image, in a message urged the youths to vote for President Goodluck in view of “his disposition towards policies and programs aimed at improving the lives of young Nigerians”. 

Edo State President, NYCN, Innocent Ajayi, in an address to the youths said they must avoid money bags and political contractors whose stock- in- trade is “use youths to do their unlawful bidding before, during and after the elections.”
  

Explaining reasons for the rally he stated that, “this of course will go a long way to psychologically mobilize our youths in the state to embrace peaceful action and to conduct themselves as agent of peace and social change before during and after this year general elections and as well shun all actions capable of undermining the credibility and the outcome of the elections.”
  

Imagwe noted that under the Jonathan’s administration the country has witnessed transformation in key sectors of the nation’s economy like the transformation in the aviation, agriculture and transportation sector, adding that education has received more attention than any other previous administration.
