NSE suggests ways to tackle unemployment

Disturbed by insecurity across the country, the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Victoria Island branch, has advised the Federal Government to develop more robust financial support for operators in Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) as a means of tackling youth unemployment.
 
Society also stressed the need for the government to enhance the salaries of police and offer life insurance to all security operatives as a means of ending insecurity in the country.  
 
The group stated these at the end of a seminar, which focused on the ‘insecurity situation in Nigeria, analysing the root cause’. 

He said deliberate efforts by the government to reduce unemployment are imperative amid the growing number of jobless Nigerians, who are mostly youths and prone to crime.

It was observed that poorly equipped forces would not solve the insecurity issue; hence, the provision of adequate funding must be executed transparently.
 
Audu said the branch supports the careful and thoughtful establishment of state police to avoid the pitfalls of the present system.
 
He said the body supports the formalization of the issues with the herdsmen through proper registration and identification of cows and by extension supports RUGA, ranching and the use of ICT or Artificial intelligence (AI) to manage concerns in that space.

The chairman further noted that human intervention must be reduced via the use of ICT especially drones (UAV), Google map, geo-location tracking mechanisms and satellite imagery through the low earth orbit satellites.
