CIPSMN advocates involvement of professionals in economic development

THE Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management (CIPSMN) has stated that for Nigeria to address ‎the challenges hindering its growth and development potential, it must as a matter of urgency, employ the services of professionals to run key sectors of the economy.

The president of the institute, Alhaji Diekola Oyewo explained that the institute had long advised the federal government to give professionals the opportunity to run vital and crucial sectors of the economy, stressing that this is the only way the nation can achieve a virile economy.

Oyewo in his first press briefing as president of the institute explained that the institute would take it as a priority to continually remind the government about the effective use of professionals to run key sectors of the nation’s economy.

“This has been our advise to government, let professionals be put where they should be. We will still continue to remind the government until they get it right. What is missing in this country is the lack of professionalism in key sectors of the economy. Professionals should be allowed to do their jobs,” he said.

He however stated that since he assumed office as president‎ of the institute, he had set up two new committees, the education and certification committee and the think thank committee, adding that the education committee will be responsible for the publication of indigenous professional textbook and review the institute’s syllabus while the think tank will offer useful advice on professional and national issues as and when the need arises.

   According to him, the institute has also resolved to liase with the relevant ministries and agencies of government on how the institute can benefit immensely from the initiated policies of government as they may affect the operations of the institute and the interest of its members.

He commended the past president of the institute, saying that during his tenure, he set tasks and target for himself with little or no resources, but stressed that against all odds within and outside the institute, he was able to change the status of the institute in a record time.

“This landmark achievement of the immediate past president is the spur that pushed me to decide to work at the leadership level of the institute,” he said.   He said his team would remain focus to continue with the great works his predecessor has done in office while fashioning ways to improve on other programmes of the institute.
