Business and Professional Women (BPW) Nigeria, recently held it’s annual convention with the theme:, “Women Collaborating for Global Impact Towards A Sustainable Framework”, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. 

BPW is an organisation which strives to help women achieve economic independence and assume their rightful position in business, the workplace, in politics and all decision making processes through education, advocacy and provision of opportunities.

Its National President, Yinka Ajibola, disclosed that BPW, in the last one year has been eventful at the local, national and international fronts.

 
The Keynote speaker, gender and development expert as well as Director, Women, Law and Development Centre (WLDCN), Dr. Keziah Awosika, who said that women are doing well in their different careers and businesses, noted that they haven’t conquered in the political terrain. 
 
Awosika said: “Now that we are on the threshold of another election, we need to do more. If we have global impact, we must ask for inclusion. Poverty level in Nigeria has increased in the last 15 years. This is one of the MDGs that was never really achieved.”  
 
During the second session, one of the panelists, Ime Iyang, who spoke on, “Empowering Women and Youth Through Growth Based Collaboration”, outlined the numerous opportunities women and youths have in the state.

She explained how to maximise these opportunities for growth and development when collaborative growth is instituted, saying, “It helps individuals and organisations synchronise their team to align, workplace to grow effectively with individual fulfillment and shared goals.  

“In empowering women and young people therefore, it becomes very imperative to understand the growth path as it has transitioned in Africa in the last decade”.
