Borno trains 83 revenue officers on automation tax system

tax-expatarrivalsTHE Borno State Internal Revenue Service Board (BIRSB) has completed a six-month computer training for 83 revenue officers.

The officers were trained on “automation tax system,” which is designed for effective tax assessment and collections in the state.

Several desktops were also procured by the BIRSB for the complete automation of tax system in in the state.
Presenting the certificates to the officers at the board’ headquarters in Maiduguri, the Executive Chairman and Permanent Secretary of BIRSBV, Alhaji Kolomi Mutah said the essence of the training was to “enhance revenue generation capacity” of the board through equipping their staff with techniques and modern methodologies of tax collections.

He said: “Despite the Boko Haram crisis in Borno state, we did not wait until the insurgency is over before we begin preparing for enhanced revenue generation.”

The chairman explained that with the intensive training of revenue officers, the board has targeted the reductions in cost of tax administration and elimination of loopholes, like tax evasion.

He however said that for Borno internal revenue service to continue in the race for more Internally Generated Revenues (IGR), the board has sent some of its staff to boards of internal revenue in Kano and Kaduna states.

“The new developments for generating more revenues in this state; will be based on the submission of their reports to the board for full implementation,” Mutah said.
