Banker tasks youths in financial sector on discipline, others

Nigerian youths seeking career in the banking and financial sector have been advised to exhibit discipline, tust and strong moral values to enable then excel in their chosen career.

The outgoing Company Secretary, FBN Holdings, Tijjani Borode, said this while sharing his 30-year experience in the banking industry with journalists in Lagos at the weekend.

He stressed the need for youths, especially those in the banking and financial sector to be focused and stay ahead of trends in order to surmount the vicissitudes of life.

“I urge the younger people to keep the trust bestowed on them. You are talking of banks and you are talking of the holding business, whatever anybody entrust you with, keep to it and also be hardworking. That is my keyword coupled with faithfulness in God and creating time for family life and other things.

“Having worked in the public sector for 30 years in the Ministry of Justice where I retired as the Director of Public Prosecution, I thought I would begin legal practice immediately after retirement from the public sector but providence took me to First Bank of Nigeria Plc in October 1988 where I started as the Assistant Company Secretary before I became the company Secretary. In 2010, when the institution birthed the FBN Holdings, I continued as the Holding Company’s Secretary until retirement,” he explained.

He added that when he moved into the private sector, there was shift in focus and responsibilities.
