Bank directors to hold forum for stakeholders

The Bank Directors Association of Nigeria (BDAN) has concluded plans to host stakeholders in the financial sector to a business forum with the theme “Oversight Functions of the Board: Effectively Managing Key Internal and External relationships’’ on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Lagos Oriental Hotel, 3, Lekki Road, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The Forum according to its President, Dr. Suuny Kuku is expected bring together directors of banks and other Financial Institutions for intellectual engagement and discussion on topical issues in Nigeria’s banking business environment as a way of assisting and supporting policy reforms and implementation in line with its mandate,
Kuku said this year’s theme was informed by the recognition of stakeholders as a critical factor in the success of any organisation.

“Organisations do not operate in a vacuum but rather in a business environment, which is comprised of different stakeholders some of which are internal and others external; with both having the capacity to influence the organisations in one way or the other. The level of influence is capable of determining the level of success or otherwise of the organisations. While some of these stakeholders are individuals, others are corporate or institutional. It is therefore imperative that for organisations to succeed in this competitive business environment, its directors must play its oversight function in ensuring that their organisations handle and manage their stakeholders satisfactorily, Kuku said.

Important personalities expected at the forum include; the Governor of Central Bank Governor (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, who will deliver the keynote address, while a renowned management consultant and expert, Dr. Adedotun Suleiman will address directors and other stakeholders on the role of directors in ensuring effective identification and management of organisation’s internal stakeholders. Besides a seasoned banker, founder and first CEO of GTB Fola Adeola, will address participants at the forum on how directors can meet their oversight functions on the management of their external stakeholders in their organisations, while the event will be chaired by Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, the chairman of Union Bank of Nigeria Plc.
