The immediate past image-maker of the Police Force, Mr. Donald N. Awunah has resumed duties as the new Commissioner of Police of Akwa Ibom State command. As the 21st Commissioner of Police since the creation of the state in 1987, he has pledged to remain apolitical and ensure a people oriented policing in the state.

He made this pledge while speaking in his office recently at the state police headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital. Awunah, who inspected a guard of honour mounted for his reception, hails from Benue State and took over from Mr Murtala Mani from Katsina State who was the 20th commissioner of the state since its creation.

The new CP stressed that he was out to project the core values of the police which is democratic policing, pledging that the police under his watch would be apolitical so as to protect democracy.

This, he reasoned, would enable him to abide strictly by those core values expected of him. “When you abide by the principles of democratic policing, it becomes very important to remain apolitical. We must protect democracy. We must remain non partisan, policing is about creating partnership”, he said

He promised to work to increase the tempo of good relationship between the Police and the public in line with the policy thrust of the Nigeria Police Force.

Awurah who also pledged quality service in the state said such service would not be possible without the cooperation of the people, he therefore solicited the support of Akwa Ibom communities to enable him succeed in his task.
