ANAN inaugurates Mainoma 11th president

The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) has inaugurated Prof. Muhammad Mainoma as its 11th president and chairman of the council.

Using his name as an acronym, the association said it was with a determination to consolidate on the attainments by Making Accountants in Nigeria Ordinarily More Attractive (MAINOMA).

During the ceremony, the new logo of ANAN as well as its training arm, Nigerian College of Accountancy (NCA) Jos, was unveiled.

In his remark, Mainoma urged members of ANAN to exhibit characters of Proficiency, Respect, Objectivity, Fairness, Education, Selflessness, Service and Integrity, Organisation, Networking, Ability, Learning, Image, Standardisation and Methodological, which he termed as PROFESSIONALISM.

Under his watch, he said the council would be working with other Professional Accounting Organisations (PAOs) to form a joint accounting body as formidable platform for advancing government, noting that the Federal Government’s National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) needs the support of PAOs in Nigeria.

“PAOs must work alongside government, regulators, law enforcement and international bodies to combat corruption, tax evasion, money laundering and to strengthen transparency and accountability programmes,’’ Mainoma said.

He urged the Federal Government to improve the pace of implementing the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP).

He said that Nigeria’s economic recovery from recession benefitted from Federal Government’s commitment to the implementation of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP).

He expressed optimism that with the favourable outlook in 2019 resulting from the rising crude oil price, growth in external reserves, declining inflation and GDP growth, there is hope that these would translate to a sustainable economic development.

In his valedictory address, the immediate past president, Shehu Ladan, mentioned some progress made to uplift the association and its members.

The Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, said that the ministry would partner with ANAN in view of its key mandate of advising on fiscal policies even as the country is facing low revenue in recent times.

Ahmed, who was represented by a member of the ministry, noted that ANAN was an important institution and government was aware of this.
