Agency empowers 405 job seekers on skills acquisition

The National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) has presented certificate of completion to 405 trainees from its maiden free skills acquisition programme.

A total of 405 participants registered last year August to undergo training in various trades, including soap making, arts and crafts production, bead making and perfume making.  

Meanwhile, eight of the graduands have been sponsored by the parastatals to undergo a training on finishing and packaging of local products to meet international standard.  

The occasion was also used to receive Kanagawa Biennial World Children’s Art Exhibition in Japan, Miss Vivian Uche Okoro.The competition was organised by the Japan Overseas Cooperative Association (JOGA), Japan.  

According the Director General, NCAC, Otunba Segun Runsewe, about 150 entries were received by NCAC for the world arts contest.It was out of this number that the young Okoro was selected to represent Nigeria in Japan.

Speaking on the motivation for the training of 405 Nigerians, Runsewe stated that he was moved by the escalating youth unemployment across the country.  Satisfied with the outcome of the maiden edition, the DG promised to sustain the gesture as part of activities marking the annual arts and crafts expo.
