Having keyed into the World Bank and Federal Government-assisted, Youth Employment and Social Support Operation (YESSO) programme, the Abia State Government has organised an orientation for stakeholders and beneficiaries of the YESSO programme.

The Sate Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, directed that all necessary steps be activated to ensure successful full implementation of YESSO, with the state being the 16th state in Nigeria, and the only one in the Southeast.

The Governor also directed the state Coordinator of Education For Employment Programme (E4E), Mr Endi Ezengwa, to coordinate YESSO as the Focal Person with the Ministry of Education as partner in the implementation process.

Speaking during the kick-off of the training of the stakeholders and beneficiaries of YESSO Public Workfare (PWF), at Amapu Ntigha Isiala Ngwa North Council Area, the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Education, Mrs Rita Okengwu, said: “Abia State keyed into YESSO PWF to create immediate labour intensive work opportunities for the unskilled youths from the Poor and Vulnerable Households (PVVHs) through the PWF project.”

She also said it was this that formed the basis for the orientation training of stakeholders and 3,863 beneficiaries selected from the World Bank-approved Single Register of the state six pilot Local Governments Areas.
