You won’t succeed this time, Ivorian striker tells Eagles

Sebastian Haller

Top striker of Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire, Sebastian Haller is optimistic of his team avenging the 1-0 defeat they suffered in the hands of the Super Eagles at the Group stage of the 34th Africa Cup of Nations when they meet tomorrow in the final.

The Ivoirians went down 1-0 to Nigeria and also suffered a 4-0 defeat to Equatorial Guinea in their last group match. They sneaked into the round of 16 as the fourth best losers.

Now, the ‘born again’ Elephants have vowed to revenge that 1-0 loss to Nigeria in tomorrow’s final. Haller said the Elephants would not fail their home fans the second time within three weeks, adding that they are ready for revenge against the Super Eagles.

“I am happy we are meeting Nigeria again. This time, we are not just going for revenge of that defeat in the group stage, but we want the title. Nigeria is a great nation. It is heavy. They beat us in the group stage.

“But we are already motivated to go and lift the trophy on Sunday in this stadium in front of the Ivorian people. We have revenge to take on Nigeria,” Haller told BeIn SPORTS.

The two-time champions, Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire are the first host country to reach the AFCON final since the Pharaohs of Egypt did in 2006, and the turnaround is absolutely remarkable for a team that was on the brink of elimination in the group stage.
