Despite the internal crisis rattling the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Friday declared that the party would remain a solid and indivisible entity in the state.
Ganduje made the declaration amidst hundreds of jubilant party loyalists at APC state headquarters.
Basking in the euphoria of the court verdict though, Ganduje assured Senator Ibrahim Shekarau’s led G-7 aggrieved APC members, that the party under Abdullahi Abbas leadership would be magnanimous in victory; despite the fact, judgement was in favor of the government.
Ganduje alongside the party chairman, Prince Abdullahi Abbas as well as members of the state executive had earlier received a rousing welcome from party loyalists who converge at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, to welcome the entourage after the Thursday appeal court judgement.
According to Ganduje, the power tussle and subsequent legal battle that ensued between the state government and the Shekarau led G-7 is “mere controversy among children of the same parent”, which would be resolved amicably.
“Let me assure you, APC is a solid and strong party in Kano state and I can. assure you again we are still one united entity in Kano. What happened is mere controversy among children of the same parent. I assure you that we would resolve issues with those who took us to court even though we have been declared victorious.
“We have invited them to join us to continue building a solid political party in Kano. Our doors are opened because we operate democracy, we embrace unity, collective responsibility that is our watchword. Our party will remain united. We have already extended our hands of fellowship to them to join us,” Ganduje noted.
Meanwhile, the G-7 members of the party have expressed dissatisfaction over the appeal court judgement that invalidated their parallel congresses while declared readiness to challenge the appellate decision at the Apex court.
The G-7 members under the leadership of former Governor Mal. Shekarau, in a statement jointly signed and made available to journalists on Friday.
The statement was signed by Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, (Kano Central); Senator Barau Jibrin ( Kano North); Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe ( D/Tofa, Rimingad/Tofa Federal Constituency); Nasiru Abduwa Gabasaw (Gezawa/Gabasawa Federal constituency); Barr. Haruna Dederi ( Karaye/ Rogo Federal constituency); Sha’aban Sharada (Kano Municipal Federal constituency) and Alhaji Shehu Dalhatu, Chairman, Buhari Support Group.
The aggrieved APC members in the release accused the Yobe State Governor and National Chairman, APC Extraordinary Caretaker Convention Committee, Mai Mala Buni for manifesting share injustice and lopsidedness in handling the two parties in dispute.
The Shekarau’s group wondered how the APC headquarters hasten to issue a certificate of recognition to Abdullahi Abbas as chairman a few hours after the appeal court judgement while vehemently denying Ahmadu Haruna Danzarga the same recognition more than 40 days after the high court validated the parallel congresses.
The group urged their party loyalists to remain calm and law-abiding with the recent court judgement just as they assured that justice will soon be served sooner than they expected.
