Visually-impaired person tasks government on policies, welfare

An appeal has been made to the government, policymakers and corporate bodies to employ, empower and support persons with disabilities (PWDs)

A visually-impaired person and Chief Executive Officer African Crafts, Adebayo Muritala, made the call at a forum in Oshogbo, the Osun State capital.

He advised the government to support programmes that would make life easy for PWDs and also pass the PWDs bill and implement it.

He said: “It is also pertinent for policymakers to raise awareness surrounding disability, as this would serve to change the negative perceptions and stigma against persons with disabilities in the society.”

He also donated clothes and cash to 20 physically -challenged persons, adding that the gesture was aimed at giving back to the community.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mama lbeji appreciated Murtala’s kind gesture for showering love and care for the blind and families.

She prayed for the donor, urged the government and others to do more for people living with disability.
