Unigloves raises infection preventive measures

unigloves-2With the aim of fighting the spread of potentially life-threatening infections, Unigloves Medical Healthcare Limited, has over the weekend held a three-day exhibition programme to basically show innovations in medicine, prevent disease transmission and improve the quality of healthcare and patient management in Nigeria.

The Managing Director of Unigloves Medical Healthcare Limited, Mr. kevin Emeka Onah, has stated that the effectiveness of any medical practice depends to a large extent the infection-control procedures implemented in patient care during pre-operative, operative and post-operative process.

“There is no perfection in medicine without control of infection, if you look at clinical governance, what the hospital is trying to achieve is to make sure that the hospital practice infection control procedure to make sure that the transfer of infection from patient to patient or from hospital to hospital is uphold to the nearest minimum.”

He said this during the exhibition programme to affirm the significance of the event, which had in attendance other partners from around the world who are manufacturers of infection-control related products, they includes B.Braun , Novomed, Praticima and Holtex, who came to showcase their products for Nigerians to benefit from their innovations.

“The event is particularly important to healthcare workers to aid them interact with those who manufacture the product they use, they can actually show them how to use those product properly, so that the efficiency and effectiveness of the product can be maximized and actualized,” Onah said.

Onah stressed the need for healthcare workers to attain the event, to have the opportunity to interact with manufacturers and ask questions with regards to the difficulty they are experiencing in clinical practice “The manufacturers will now be able to address those problems by improving on what they already have.

“We are experts in infection control and have a network of partnering with other manufacturers that manufacture product related to infection control which is our core area, and our intention is to make sure that our services are available in Nigeria and affordable as well.

“What we intend to achieve in Nigeria is effective supply chain management which means, our product can be traceable, if there is any issue we can withdraw product from the market and then make sure we improve in the quality; of course we have not had any such case, but then which is why we are careful to support and monitor those who are into that; and that is the growth of our partners.”

Onah pointed out the implication of not using infection control product as being very dangerous. “You do not wear gloves for Ebola alone, people die from other acquired infection which could have been prevented by simple procedure of wearing of gloves, washing their hands or sanitizing their body,” he added.

Onah urged Nigerians to get use to infection control products. “As the products are manufactured for our benefit, people should make sure they buy them on time, that way, they will not just save their life but will eliminate the cause,” he said.

He further emphasized that buying product that comply strictly to the medical directives provided by the National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). is the best.
