BRITAIN is joining Nigeria, Japan, Kenya and Slovenia to push for the emergence of Prof. Dapo Akande as member of the International Law Commission (ILC).
The Nigerian is not only the joint candidate of the five countries into the global law body, but also the nominee of the entire Western European and Others Group (WEOG).
Speaking on Akande’s candidature in Abuja, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, noted: “It is an honour and privilege to host Prof. Akande. He is an outstanding scholar and lawyer. It is wonderful that the UK and Nigeria are jointly nominating him for a position on the International Law Commission. This further demonstrates the strength of our partnership and our people-people ties.”
The British government observed that the Nigerian, who had his law education at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, brings on board a unique breadth of perspective and expertise in Africa that would make a significant contribution to the work of the commission.
