VDT, ATCON collaborate for Internet Protocol workshop

VDT Communications is collaborating with the Association of Telecoms Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), to sponsor this year’s Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) workshop, which begins this week in Lagos.

VDT is co-sponsor of the IPv6 workshop jointly organized by ATCON and AFRINIC. The decision of VDT to sponsor the workshop is based on her leadership role in the industry, the huge benefit of IPV6 and the zealousness of ATCON in inculcating global best practice in the industry.

IPv6 is a matured successor to IP version 4 (IPv4), the predominant protocol in use today for internet access. The changes from IPv4 to IPv6 are primarily in the areas of expanded addressing capabilities; header format simplification; improved support for extensions and options; flow labeling capability; and consolidated authentication and privacy capabilities.

The transition to IPv6 holds the future of the internet.

The kind of communication that will be enabled by the advent of IPv6 will be particularly useful in the embedded systems arena, as millions of new devices take advantage of Internet connectivity. The shortcomings of IPv4 have necessitated the transition to IPv6 along with its diverse benefits such as reduction of address space, internet security, and quality of service, auto configuration, and wireless, among several others.
