Managing Director of SystemSpecs, Mr. John Obaro

Founder of ePayment provider, System Specs, John Obaro, has tasked developers to see problems in the country as viable opportunities that require technological solutions.

Obaro stated this at the “Leapfrogging social impact through technology,” event, held in Lagos. The event, which was a collaboration of Bridge International Academy and Lagos State Ministry of Education in partnership with SystemSpecs, aimed at using technology to provide quality education in schools.

Speaking on the alliance, Obaro said: “An educated mind is a powerful mind. Technology is a tool that can help people to get educated. These days when you are familiar with computers, you can self learn a lot of things.

“We see leveraging on technology in the educational sector as enlightening the self-interest. Working with the government and Bridge Academy to create a pool of people that will be productive when they leave school, is actually to our advantage.

“When our students can get quality education, it will increase their chances of self-sufficiency and employability upon graduation, which will also reduce the cost of retraining for firms and time trying to repair faulty foundations, which may be impossible in some cases.”

Obaro noted that this programme is a different paradigm from the codeLagos, “this gumption centres on bringing in a holistic system where the teachers, the backroom, and the students can use technology to enhance the quality of our education.”

Speaking on ways of building smart citizens, Obaro advocated equipping parks with WiFi, “this will make people to self educate. Then, we will be building a community that can add value to their own lives because they will be gainfully employed. They will be raising the quality of their own jobs beyond being pure blue collar to white collar jobs because in reality, a lot of blue collar jobs and some white collar jobs will be taken over by technology.
