Nigeria to focus on entrepreneur devt at Gitex 2015

THE Federal Government of Nigeria, through the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), has said it will leverage on its participation at this year’s Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (Gitex) to be hold in Dubai October, 2015 to develop and promote Nigerian youths with prerequisite entrepreneurial skills.

Nigeria has been a major participant in the yearly Gitex Technology Week for the past two years. Nigeria participated in the 2014 edition as ‘Country Partner’, and had a good showing with local companies displaying their services at the event that attracted over 135,000 trade visitors in 140 countries.

According to the Director General of (NITDA),Peter Jack,said Nigeria would leverage on the theme of this year’s event by featuring an army of young innovators that can deliver society changing solutions across all sectors including education, health care, agriculture, security, oil and gas, and the retail industry. The theme for 2015 GITEX Technology Week is ‘The Internet Future of Everything’.
 
According to him, “We want to ensure promotion of local start-ups, projection of the country’s vast and untapped Information Technology potential, organisation of Nigeria’s IT Investment Forum within the Nigerian Pavilion as well as distribution of IT intelligence material from Nigeria to the rest of the world at Gitex,” he said.

Jack added that NITDA has embraced multi-sector stakeholders in the Local Organising Committee to ensure full participation of the public and private sectors as well as the education/research institutions.

The committee, according to Jack will provide the framework and implementation activities for participation of stakeholders inside the Nigerian Pavilion at Gitex 2015.
