Motorola has returned to the Nigerian smartphone market with a target to be a ‘challenger brand’.

Coming in through Lenovo, which it bought into, Motorola said as a pioneer trusted brand in Nigeria, it is confident of having a good market share in the highly competitive smartphone market in the country.

The firm, which returned with eight smartphone models, including the Moto E4, Moto E4 plus, Moto C 3G, Moto C 4G, and Moto C Plus, hinted that it will phase out Lenovo phones by December.

The firm said its range of innovative smartphones guarantee consumers the opportunity to experience high definition display and cutting edge design at value prices.

Business Operations and Development Manager, Motorola Africa, Marcel Van De Pas, in an interview, said the new sets of devices are coming with a more advanced technology that is innovative and disruptive.

Van De Pas said people loved devices that will not fail them, “and that is what Motorola is bringing to the market. The trust which has been known with the brand will do the magic. Practicality makes technology easier for the communities.”

He revealed that Motorola was part of Lenovo Holdings, which has completed the integration, almost two and half years now, saying that its portfolio line up will be prepared for Motorola products, “because we believed that with Moto and Motorola, there is a stronger brand proposition. The completion of the acquisition of Motorola mobility, gave to us not only the brand licence but also 3000 top notch Research and Development engineers in Chicago, working on Motorola not Lenovo products. We hoped to have phased out the Lenovo phones for Motorola brands by end of this year.”

Meanwhile, at the Core Dealers event, Head of Marketing at Motorola, Shane Solomon, said: “It is indeed a great pleasure to be back in the Nigerian market to introduce new range of smartphones, stressing that the firm’s commitment to improving the mobile experience of users has enabled this premium innovations launched in the country.

“Nigeria is a huge market for mobile phones, and it is a market for consumers who are constantly looking to more in terms of what they can achieve with their smartphones. Being the pioneer of the world’s first smartphone, we are excited about our presence in Nigeria once again, and we look forward to delighting our customers through the Moto smartphones.

“We decided to launch the smartphones with our top dealers from all across Nigeria. With this engagement, they will have first-hand knowledge about the phones and our plans to make the phones available throughout the country,” he added.

The Chief Executive Officer of SLOT Nigeria, Nnamdi Eziegbo, said: “Motorola is a renowned brand across the world, for its innovation of high technology smartphones. We are happy they are back in Nigeria. As a retail partner in Nigeria, the company has created an opportunity for Nigerians to choose from the varieties of mobile phones available in the market. We will continue to support the brand to ensure that these Moto phones are available across every region of the country.”
