Upperlink gets CMMI certification

InternetUPPERLINK, a local software and e-payment solutions development has been certified with Capability Maturity Model Integration [CMMI] in compliance with international standards.

CMMI is a process improvement training and certification programme and service administered, marketed by Carnegie Mellon University and required by many organizations and government agencies for software development contracts.
With 25 different process areas that cater to comprehensive business process improvement and solution, each process of CMMI area has two goals, two practices, and many educational information to help management make the right strategies.

The certification applies to subcontractors who provide custom software to companies or creating solutions for the government. They must follow CMMI or be covered by their clients.  Parts of the software product delivered to the government must be following CMMI somewhere in the supply chain.

Speaking in Lagos at the weekend, Managing Director, Upperlink, Segun Akano, said the CMMI achievement came at the right time. “Nigeria desire to conserve its hard earned foreign exchange. If it were possible to include software among the 43 items the Central Bank of Nigeria excluded from accessing foreign exchange from official channels, it will have amounted to a significant figure of savings; but software as an invisible product it is difficult to ban by fiat.
