The consistency of your darling newspaper, The Guardian in promoting robust journalism both online and offline was duly recognised at the weekend in Lagos, when it bagged two awards at the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) .ng media awards.

Coming at a time the newspaper just celebrated 35 solid years of championing and promoting the pen profession in the country, The Guardian bagged the Best Print Media Website and Presidential Award in the best supporting media partner category.

This is the third time in a row The Guardian would be recognised at the awards, which celebrate “achievements and innovations” among websites using the .ng domain name in Nigeria.

The Guardian bagged it at the maiden edition in 2016. It emerged top again in 2017 and now in 2018.

The award, according to NiRA, was judged based on the level of local, original and undiluted contents promoted by such media house and its website.

In the award categories, The Guardian was recognised ahead of media houses including Leadership; Daily Trust; The Daily Times; The National Pilot and Tribune.

According to the President of NiRA, Rev. Sunday Afolayan, the association believed in the power of the Internet and are determined that the .ng domain name space that “we are responsible for, has a positive impact on the lives of Internet users.”

The NiRA President said the yearly awards are open to any organisation or individual whose activity online is outstanding, using the .ng domain name.

Folayan, while welcoming the awardees and guests, specially recognised and appreciated The Guardian Newspaper, which he said has demonstrated an uncommon depth of association with the .ng brand.

He disclosed that The Guardian Newspaper has promoted the .ng brand on the pages of the newspaper daily and online, in the past three years.

Indeed, in the last two years, The Guardian has redefined digital publishing within the Nigeria media space, adopting a more robust approach to news dissemination on its websites and across its social media platforms.
