Nigeria is blessed with talented artisans and industrious businessmen and women, who produce fascinating products that satisfy the needs of many.

Unfortunately, these individuals face frustration, as their brands do not go beyond the local market, with the international market closed to them.

This is why Afrebay, an online trading platform based in the U.S., is seeking to promote African businesses and artisans to the rest of the world by providing opportunity for those without any clear path on how to reach global markets.

This was announced at the official unveiling of Afrebay platform in Lagos.

The event had in attendance several executives of top organizations, promoters of Afrebay, artisans and self-employed business individuals, who congregated to share their experiences and challenges and learn how to use the platform to boost their products internationally.

CEO of Visage World Limited, Afolabi Andu, enjoined guests to make judicious use of the platform in promoting their business, saiying, “Africa’s products are often seen as substandard by the world market.

This is why we have often been ignored whenever we try to reach the international market.

However, with Afrebay, the situation is under control, as we will give you an express route directly to the world market, without any hiccup or hindrance.”

In the same vein, CEO of Fela Durotoye Organization, Olufela Durotoye, gave a concise insight on ways to develop local brands into global brands. He illustrated his points with the world map and pointing out that Nigeria is in the centre of the world map and that she has a great opportunity to export her products to other countries from either side of her than China, which is one of the major exporting countries in the world.

He explained that Nigeria is not able to claim her rightful place because of lack of good platforms to popularize their brands.

Fela further explained that government has a great role to play in the promotion of local brands.

“Companies become global brands because they have governments that not only support them but inspire them to succeed,” he said.

There was also a session for leading Nigerian brand owners to advertise their products and reveal their achievements, challenges and future ambitions.

Then it was time for the official unveiling of Afrebay platform, which was done by its CEO, Mr. Lekan Salaam, who reiterated the need for Nigerian business owners, who wish to see their business rise to a global scale, to register online and promote their products.

He also explained the requirement for registration and warned that Afrebay would consider only products considered to be of global standards, as they look to promote only the best Nigerian brands.

Also, Chief Finance Officer of Afrebay U.S., Yemi Azeez, thanked participating guests and said he was looking forward to working with creative Nigerian brand owners, who are determined to become international business people.
