Association of Concerned Technocrats Monitoring Economic Policies of Nigerian Government (ACTMEPNG) has canvassed prompt intervention of the National Assembly on the need for prompt implementation of the recent order by the Federal Government announcing the removal of importation tariffs on Compressed Liquefied Gas.

During a briefing, yesterday, in Ilorin, Kwara State, ACTMEPNG said the alleged lethargic attitude of all stakeholders on the implementation of the import waiving order could portray President Bola Tinubu’s government as either a lame duck or a complete deceitful regime.

Late last year, the Federal Government had announced tariff exemption to the importation of the product. The development was greeted with positive reactions by gas products dealers across the country.

But till date, the dealers have, according to the National President of ACTMEPNG, Tahir Adamu, been waiting in vain for the implementation of the directive.

He stated: “The National Assembly committees on gas and related matters should investigate this delay and let Nigerians know the issues causing it? We need to do something on it if truly we are the elected lawmakers representing the interests of the over 200 million Nigerians.

“This development sounds strange and it appears as if this government does not do thorough follow-up on her policies. By now, all the scheduled officials in charge of this implementation should have been called to order. The dealers are on a daily basis incurring huge demurrage on their imported gas products, relying on the government announcement.”

While noting the imperatives of gas as the kennel of modern economic policies of many countries, Adamu urged the National Assembly members to beam their searchlight on the development, so that Nigeria would not be an isolated country. He added that the Nigerian industrial revolution should be rejigged, minding the imperatives of gas in economic growth.
