Olurundahunsi, who was the guest lecturer in the FUTA Graduating Class 15 Awards and Lecture Series, noted that the roles of youth in peace-building is very critical in view of the impending security challenge in the country.

Held in line with the International Youth Day, tagged: Youth And National Development: Issues, Challenges And Viable Solutions In The Contemporary Nigeria, Olorundahunsi stated that government established the Ministry of Youth Development in February 2007 with a mandate to promote the physical, mental and socio-economic development of Nigerian youth through the advancement and protection of their rights.

Analysing the roles youths play in entrepreneurship, human capital development and peace-building, the retired justice, said: “Youths are the foundation of society. Their energies, inventiveness, character and orientation define the pace of development and security of a nation. Through their creative talents and labour, a nation makes giant stride in economic development and socio-political growth.

According to him: “The youths in any society are the engine of growth and development because they provide the labour force for production of goods and services. They are also the critical masses of people whose action or inaction can develop or destroy the hegemonies of their society.”

Olorundahunsi urged the graduating Class 15 to put in their best and excel irrespective of the current prevailing circumstances in the country.

The chairman of the occasion, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, enjoined them to be diligent, honest and explore their latent potentials to find a lasting solution to the problems confronting the nation.
