Michael Okpara Varsity Graduates 19 Vet Doctors

Graduates-007MICHAEL Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUA), Abia State has graduated its second batch of Doctors of Veterinary Medicine (DVM). The graduates, numbering 19, were administered their professional oath to formally admit them into the profession as Veterinary Surgeons.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Hilary Odo Edeoga, in his address, said the school attaches great importance to the training of Veterinary Doctors and would continue to support all programmes and activities geared towards the enhancement of research, teaching and learning, while taking into cognizance the fact that the production of quality Veterinary Surgeons is capital intensive.

According to him, attaining food security without Veterinary Medicine is not easily possible, hence the need to make it one of the school’s crucial departments, despite being expensive to run. “Veterinary training in this university was approved at MOUA Senate’s 67th Regular meeting on 28 of July, 2004, when I was the Deputy Vice Chancellor.

“I am therefore particularly happy to preside over this Veterinary oath-taking ceremony of our DVM graduates for the second time as the Vice Chancellor and I am particularly grateful to the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) for having meticulously followed our training programme to ensure that we produced quality DVM graduates.”

Administering the oath on them, the Registrar of VCN, Dr. Markus Avong said “since the present Vice Chancellor, Edeoga assumed duties, the department of veterinary medicine and MOUA had been moving in the right direction, describing him as “a development expert”.

President of the Nigerian Veterinary Medicine Association (NVMA) Dr. Edgar Sunday, who commended MOUA for sustaining its well known academic and research excellence over the years, said NVMA is proud of MOUA DVM graduates and congratulated them for working hard to be found worthy.
