The realm of the supernatural – Part 1

The realm of the supernatural is the realm beyond the reach of science, and beyond human explanation. The word “supernatural” means beyond and above the natural. This is where God operates. It is the realm, where heaven and the earth intermingle; the realm of interaction between God and man. God wants His children to live and operate from this realm. He said to John, “Come up hither and I will show you what must take place after now” (Rev.4: 1). This was an invitation to the realm of the supernatural.

The supernatural realm is where God reveals to us what happens behind the physical realm. The story of Elisha, his servant and the invading army confirms the existence of a supernatural realm. “And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” So, he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, and said, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha (2 Kgs.6: 1-19).

What Is This Realm?
The realm of the supernatural is a realm of revelation and knowledge; it is a realm of an encounter with the supernatural God. In Genesis 28 and 32, Jacob encountered God. I believe Jacob got the secrets for his prosperity and increase during this encounter. The late Joseph Babalola encountered God in this realm; so did other revivalists like Garrick Isokari Braide.

The supernatural is a realm of consciousness; it is a realm of reality; it is a realm of power; it is a realm of holiness and purity; it is a realm of beauty; it is a realm, where God speaks to us (2 Pet.1: 17-19); it is a realm, where the impossible become possible (Gen.32: 24-32; Acts 12:1-11); it is a realm of limitless possibilities; it is a realm, where destinies change, miracles occur, victory is obtained; it is a realm, where things that do not exist come into existence (Heb.11: 1-3). Keep these definitions in mind, as we examine some examples of supernatural encounters in the Bible.

Those Who Experienced The Realm Of The Supernatural
The Bible is filled with testimonies and experiences of the intermingling of the heavenly and earthly realms. The apostle Peter experienced the realm of the supernatural at various times in his ministry, one of which was at the Mount of Transfiguration, as they watched Jesus was transformed, while He prayed (Lk.9: 28-36 and Matthew 14:22-33). Peter again experienced this realm, when he saw Jesus walking on water and He bid him come. Peter walked on water, though for a while. Jacob experienced the realm of the supernatural in Gen.28: 11-19. As he stopped at Bethel on his way to Laban’s house, he had a dream.

In the dream, he saw angels ascending and descending from heaven. He later testified that it was the house of God and the gates of heaven. The gate of heaven was certainly the gate to the realm of the supernatural. Paul lived in the realm of the supernatural (2 Cor.12: 2-4). He said he was caught up into the third heavens, where he “heard inexpressible words.” The realm of the supernatural is where you hear things, which others don’t hear.
