Scripture: “…it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, do them, the LORD thy God shall keep the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers:” Deuteronomy 7: 12

Bible Passage: Leviticus 26: 14-33
Introduction

OBEDIENCE is doing what you are asked to do. It is compliance. It is submission to God.
Outlines
• Disobedience Is A Sin.
• Consequences
Sin Of Disobedience

The disobedience of one man is imputed to the human race – Rom.5: 19a.
We all inherited the sinful nature of rebellion – Rom. 5:18a.

Rebellion always has unpleasant, sometimes unexpected consequences. Robbery by omission – Mal. 3: 8-9. Partial obedience is worse than outright disobedience. It is hypocritical, deceptive and manipulative. Mk. 12:29-30, Rev. 3: 15-16.
Consequences

It changes a blessing to a curse – Deut. 11: 28; Dan. 9: 11; Eph. 5: 6.
God will punish the disobedient – 2 Thess. 1:8; 1Sam 12:15.
God can destroy an entire nation for disobedience – Jeremiah 12:17.
Disobedience alters our destiny adversely – Numbers 20:10-12.
Disobedience can lead to death – 1Chron. 13:8-10.

Abraham – Gen. 12:1,4-5,9-10. Abraham appeared more absent-minded than disobedient, but his progress was still halted – Gen 13:8-12, 14-16.

On the other hand, King Saul’s crafty half obedience was carefully planned. He set himself against God. He sought to outwit God – 1Sam 15:3, 8-9. The consequences were far reaching in their destruction both for Saul and those connected to him.

Conclusion
Rebellion begets rejection. Obedience is the main springboard of our relationship with God and all blessings flow therefrom, Matt. 7:24-27. Without obedience nothing works. Everything flows from it. It is a matter of the heart, Acts 8:21. The chilling words of the Lord to the rebellious King Saul bear paraphrasing here. “Is the Lord delighted in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obedience to My instructions? Listen and take note! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and to pay attention to my commands better than hefty donations at fund-raisers. To Me, your rebellion is nothing short of divination and your defiance is tantamount to wickedness and idol worship. You have by your disobedience rejected Me, as your Lord and I have no choice but to reject you as king over My people” – 1Sam. 15:22-23. God have mercy on us all in Jesus’ name. Amen.
