THE Bishop of Lagos West, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Rt. Revd. Dr. James Olusola Odedeji has charged the laity to sustain the success the church has recorded within the period of 18 years of its existence and not rest on their oars.

The Bishop, who said this during a special service held at Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral, Ikeja, Lagos, last Monday, to mark the anniversary celebration, explained that faithful must be consistent and do things the way it should be done, so that posterity would be kind to them.

He said: “Everybody comes to this diocese to learn. In Nigeria, this diocese was the first to start the vision and mission they have decided to follow, which is to be a leading diocese in the Church of Nigeria,” he said.

In his sermon titled: “Living For God Even In Suffering,” the Bishop of Ile-Oluji, Rt. Revd. Abel Ajibodu said today Christianity faces persecution from other religions and many faithful are endangered through enticement, threat and violence in many places.

He urged Christians to know God and have a sound relationship with Him in order to overcome these challenges.

Warning that persecution is part of the test for Christ’s followers, Odedeji enjoined Christians to note that, “when you are going on a journey and you have no difficulties, you are going in the same direction with the devil.”

He said because they have chosen to be the light and different in the world, darkness would attack them.
