A husband can be worn to Christ by hearing the Good News from you, the church or from anywhere else. But this is not always the case. Sometimes, you may have a husband that has no respect for God’s Word. Spiritual things may not freak him. He may not even attend church, or just be a “churchgoer.” He may be neck-deep in sin and the care of life.

Yet, Peter said such men could be won to Christ by observing the good deeds of their wives. Wow!

By being a good wife to your husband and being responsive to his needs, you may win a husband who is indifferent to anything about God. He will be captivated by your life of holy beauty. What matters is not your outer appearance — the styling of your hair, the jewelry you wear, the cut of your clothes — but your inner disposition and good character. Your action as a Christian wife speaks louder than words!

Peter was sharing a thought towards the tail end of chapter two of His first epistle just before he got to chapter three. I will like you to see it, as it buttresses the whole lesson about how a woman can win her unbelieving husband with her good conduct.

“You who are slaves must accept the authority of your masters with all respect. Do what they tell you—not only if they are kind and reasonable, but even if they are cruel. For God is pleased with you when you do what you know is right and patiently endure unfair treatment. Of course, you get no credit for being patient if you are beaten for doing wrong. But if you suffer for doing good and endure it patiently, God is pleased with you. For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps.” (1 Peter 2:18-21) NLT

Although the above passage was written to slaves, it is in this manner that the wives are admonished to show good conducts to their husbands. Wives are not slaves their husbands’ slaves, but Peter was admonishing them to show good conducts to their husbands, even when he treats them unfairly. This is a very difficult thing to do, but with the help of the Spirit it can be done. We must endure hardship as good soldiers of God. We must learn to do good to those that do evil to us. Repaying evil for evil is not a New Testament practice.

Most women run from pillar to post, going from one vigil to prayer conference to pray for their husbands’ salvation. But they have failed to do the needful – modeling Christ unto their husbands. Prayer is good, but it doesn’t save sinners. It is the Good News that saves men. They can either hear it or see it in your conduct to be saved.

You’ve prayed enough, it’s time to model Christ to your husband. Respect and honour him! Let your character preach to Him. You may be the only “Christ” he has ever met, if you profess to be a Christian. You may be the only epistle he is reading. It can take a lifetime, but this is a principle from God’s Word that never fails. This also applies to husbands who want their wives saved. And to anyone that has a close relative or friends who aren’t yet saved, you’re the only epistle some people are reading. Will they really know the love of God by observing you?
