Cleric berates politicians for politicising national issues

Nigerians have been advised to stop politicising serious national issues that divide the country along religious line.

Prophet Albert Samson Arojah of the St. Peter’s Cherubim and Seraphim Band gave the advice at his 50th birthday anniversary and 30 years on the pulpit, last Sunday.

The prophet, who was also honoured with Exemplary Leadership Award by the Justice and Equity Forum at the event, said such sentiments portend a great danger to the country’s unity.

Accepting the award together with his wife, Prophet Arojah thanked the group for the recognition accorded him. He said his passion has always been to put smiles on families’ faces.

He said no religion preaches violence, and that politicians seeking appointments should do so through political structure rather than employ religious and ethnic sentiments, which create tension in the polity.

“We live in a world, where people measure their happiness with material possession. But this should not be so. You must measure your happiness through ensuring the happiness of others. This is the example Jesus Christ has set for us. You can bless others with your smile, your money, your material possession or even other things. Put a smile on people’s faces and you will be glad,” he said.

He advised government at all levels to imbibe the principle of equity, justice and fairness in order to give everyone the sense of belonging.

Also speaking at the event, which climaxed with the launching of prophet Arojah’s book and album launch, the chief launcher, Dr. A.A. Oyerinde described the celebrant as a philanthropist, who has touched many lives.
