A fruitful minister and a fruitful ministry

Matthew 21:18-22; 4:4; John 15:1, 2; 20:21; Mark 16:15, 16

This miracle of the barren fig tree has been misunderstood by many ministers of the gospel.

Just like the disciples were amazed at the instance of the miracle, ministers supposed miracles are for their benefit at the expense of God’s will.

Some supposed the reason God conferred the power on them is to manufacture food whenever they need it.

They thought miracles are to display how powerful they are, to show that they are wining and dining with heavens. But, what was the main reason and purpose behind all miracles?

First and foremost, we must understand that, if it were for hunger, Jesus would have turned stone to bread when the devil asked Him to; but He said: “man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).

That means miracles are not for show, ego, self or praises of men.

It is to confirm, fulfil and perform what the Almighty God Himself determined to do.

The miracle that took place in this case was to prove to the disciples and ministers that God detest bareness or unfruitfulness.

Check out what happened after the deluge. God told the family of Noah to spread and filled the earth.

Contrary to this, Nimrod led them to disobey by localising into cities and fenced walls.

God was not pleased with this kind of stubbornness, so He scattered their language.

When Jesus was on earth with the disciples, He said, “I am the vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit” (John 15:1, 2).

Why is it that God called ministers and there is no fruit? Why are ministries established for years and there is no fruit?

Why is it that churches are growing weaker and weaker daily and the ministers are not full of the Spirit again?

Is God really interested in this condition of the church? What is God thinking about such ministers that are not fruitful?

What should we do as ministers to get on fire for the Lord again?

What would be the end of ministers who fail to catch the vision of fruitfulness for his ministry?

Let us come together and consider once again the last and the most important commission Christ committed to our hands.

“Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

He that believeth and is baptised shall be saved… Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you” (Mark 16:15, 16; John 20:21).
