FUPRE sets target for 716 matriculating students

Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), Prof. Akii Ibhdadode, has enjoined the 716 matriculating students to be epitomes of excellence and relevance, by pursuing sound academic aptitude that would solve societal problems.

To achieve this, Ibhadode, advised the fresh undergraduates to set high goals for themselves and also to acquire the requisite knowledge to overcome the challenges in the nation’s oil and gas industry.

Ibhadode disclosed that the school has various groundbreaking achievements over the past 10 months. He listed such milestones to include; the Delta Cruz prototype racecar, which won the overall best awards at the 2015 Shell Eco-marathon competition in South Africa.

“There were also the “research on Ground Robotic Oil Spill Surveillance (GROSS), which won the OTL Africa Downstream Innovation Award and the University Research team has advanced on the construction of mini-refinery as a response to the challenges of fuel supply chain in the country,” he said.

The VC also said the school has entered into diverse partnerships and collaborations to gain strength and capacity to surmount the obstacles to development and champion a new wave of research and advancement.

He informed that Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria has given a Professorial Chair in Light Weight Automobile Engine Development, while the University of Nottingham has given the university a slot for Ph.D programme in oil and gas.

Ibhadode urged the Freshers to acquire knowledge and expertise that will not only shape their destinies, but also the well-being of the society.
