Don Tasks NGOs, Firms On Education
THE Rector of Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State, Prof. Bilesanmi Awodero, has enjoined Nigerians to partner government at all levels for the development of education in the country.
Awodero gave this charge during the commissioning of two engineering studios donated to the school by the children of late Adedotun Fayomi, a retired Permanent Secretary in Ogun State Ministry of Education and former registrar, Ekiti State University. He noted that government alone can no longer fund education in the country, saying it is the†collective responsibility of every Nigerian and organisations to support government to improve the sector.
The Rector disclosed that advanced nations see education as a public good, which they prioritise and invest heavily in, noting that the wealth of any nation†is a function of the quality of education it gives the people.
The Rector further emphasised that a structural educational system would stabilise the nation’s economy, saying that inadequate fund and lack of infrastructural facilities in our schools are responsible for the decadence in the education sector.
“I want to appreciate Fayomi’s family for the donation of the building. It will go a long way in assisting the polytechnic, especially the Engineering Department for their practical and modeling of their work. We need more of this in the school because, as we can see government cannot fund education alone.”
“We are calling on private firms, individual and corporate organisations to also assist government at all levels for the development of the nationís educational sector.
