Aleto Community in Eleme, has endured heinous crimes, ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, wanton killings and other such vices, including their youths being backwards in education. But through prayers, such challenges have been brought to an end.

The people of Aleto Community in Eleme Local Council of Rivers State have celebrated what they described as victory over the devil and his works in their domain.

Aleto Community in Eleme, has endured heinous crimes, ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, wanton killings and other such vices, including their youths being backwards in education. But through prayers, such challenges have been brought to an end.

So, it was a joyous moment at the weekend in the community when both indigenes and non-indigenes rejoiced in celebration of the supernatural victory and successes that they have recorded so far. A visit to the area also showed that most of the shrines have been turned to Christian worship centres.

At the programme organised by a group known as “Aleto All Believers,” which had as its theme, “Praise ye the Lord,” the people glorified God for cleansing their community of vestiges of idolatory, violent crimes and others.

The event, which was attended by prominent sons and daughters of Eleme, including the former Governor of Yobe State, Captain Kalio Ben, who was lauded and appreciated alongside others for their efforts towards the liberation and successes of the community.Aleto Monarch and the Secretary of Eleme Council of Chiefs, Chief Philip Osaro, praised God for the deliverance and victory granted his people. He however, warned youths to desist from the drug abuse, as well as, election violence to avoid dragging the community backwards again.

He said, “We are celebrating here today because we are free and happy. We were backward before, but today, we have recorded great successes; a lot of our sons and daughters are occupying amiable positions in the society, our youths are now resourceful, and going to school.

“We also thank Indorama Company for supporting us, by empowering our youths and women. What our boys are using to sustain their lives and others going to school are mostly through the assistance of Indorama.”

Also speaking, President of Aleto All Believers, Pastor Laleobe Friday, said it was prayers and faith in God that turned their misfortune to testimonies. He said the group came together and prayed hard to ensure that the community is free from shrines, while good education and live changing programmes have become the order of the day.

His words:  ‘’to be very candid we are doing this to thank God, if not for the mercies of God we would have not been here today, the devil tried to destroy this land but the prayers of the saints has kept us on the right path.

‘’As I grew up in Aleto,  I discovered that we are backward in every area especially in education,  I happened to be the only man that was a Christian then,  I used to ask myself  can I be in a community like this? fortunately I met few people that were believers and we started praying seriously for a turnaround and we thank God today there is nothing like shrine in Aleto again .we have drove them off from our land and before we knew it churches started to multiply in the once dreaded community.

“Not only that our people were backwards in education  in the 70s but due to relentless prayers in Eleme ,we have a lot of persons mostly from Aleto who have achieved a lot in terms of getting quality education, all these  are the dividends of our persistent prayers and we believe that as much as we continue to pray and call upon the name of the Lord , God will  bring down his glory more upon the land not only for me but for the indigene and non- indigenes”
