Top seeds, Wale Amao and Yemisi Olatunji, continued their fine form as the 2016 Lagos International Squash Classics entered crucial stage yesterday.

The semifinals of the $4,000 prize money Professional Squash Association (PSA)-sanctioned Closed Satellite competition holding at Teslim Balogun Stadium will hold today, but yesterday, Amao, who is the men’s number one seed, wasted no time in dismissing Seun Jayeola 11-2, 11-9, 11-3 in the first round of the competition.

Unlike Amao, who spent 35 minutes to edge out his opponent, women’s number one seed, Yemisi Olatunji, was without mercy against Grace Mayh as she spent 20minutes in an encounter that ended 11-4, 11-1, 11-0 in the favour of the highest rated Nigerian star.

In other matches played in the men’s event of the opening day, Idowu Enimakure was stretched to the fourth game by Moshood Abubakar but the match still ended in favour of Enimakure who won 5-11, 14-12, 11-5, 11-9 to progress to the quarterfinal stage.

Other players that advanced to the last eight of the men’s event include Shola Thomas, Sodiq Taiwo, Endurance Omosor, Jerry Ogunjiofor, Lanre Abdulrahman and Moses Durosinmi.

The female players that joined Olatunji in the quarterfinals are Kally Yashim, Omolola Ajayi, Dunni Okikiola and Taiwo Ebifemi, while the trio of Bisi Adeleke, Sunday Veronica and Busayo Olatunji walked over their opponents to move to the next stage.
